Our Coderdojo Erode Inaugural event Experiance

2 min read

Dear all,

I am writing about my experience with Coderdojo Erode Inaugural event. Event held on 5/4/2015 at our village temple ground. In this event, I helped with Designs and printouts. We planned for the event for past week by meeting every evening.

Day before the event, we had a meetup until 11.30 PM for event preplanning. On the day of the event, we all meetup at temple ground around 9.30 AM. Around 10 AM, we had six learners from different age groups. I handed over event badges that was designed by me to learners. We had seven volunteers helping with this event apart from mentors.

Gauthamraj Elango started the event by talking about “Basics of Computer”. He used printouts to explain these things. Learners showed interest and actively participated. We explained Basic system and process of Computer with small sheets by forming Human Chain.

This activity helped learners to understand process easily. Our another mentor Udhayakumar explained about how computer works using Human Chain. We then had a Puzzle game for learners based on Human chain. This is to make learning easy and FUN !

Two learners showed interest to share their learning on a paper. They able to reproduce their  learning well.

We all gave cool drink and snack to the learners. We all took selfie’s and ended the day with smiles :)

I would like to thank CoderDojo Erode team for giving this opportunity.

#NetNeutrality - We Want to chase our dreams

Today, Webmaker and CoderDojo Erode clubs are joining hands with other organizations and individuals to save in India. In the morning, we did a human rally in the streets of our neighborhood to create awareness about . To have an impact we invited everyone for a "Call for Action". Due to our regional conditions, majority who showed interest are kids and youth. That's what we expected too :)

Why matters a lot to us ?

As a group, our vision is to provide better education about/with technology to kids/youth. Our prime focus is on rural areas. In rural places, Infrastructure and access to technology is getting better and can be affordable.

So,what's missing then ?

We think, the awareness and skills required to use/access the Internet are missing. (i.e) they aren't web nor digital literates.

CoderDojoErode & Webmaker Erode clubs we are trying to bridge the gap between rural people and technology. To have a good impact, we do this only with Kids and Youth in rural region.

If Internet is not Neutral, our learners won't be able to come online since they can't afford the high costs. This will put up a barrier at the access level itself.

Providing required skills and making rural kids/youth as web literates who can't afford to come online, doesn't make any sense nor impact for both learners and us.

Not having, Neutral Internet will make the dreams of our team, volunteers, mentors and learners as a dream that won't come true for ever.

How to help change to world for the cost of your Latte #teachtheweb

2 min read

We at @CoderDojoErode want to change the world. We want to ensure the children of Erode have a chance to read, write, and participate on the Open Web. This will empower people and provide economic opportunity.

We are asking for your help.

I recieved a Tweet last night that a shirt was designed for the seven mentors who run the program.

Not one of the teachers can afford the shirt. These are mentors committed to a better future. They work with young students many, because of gender, caste, or poverty may not have been allowed to, or have never touched a computer before

The mentors of CoderDojoErode volunteer immense hours to ensure a better future for India. They teach html tags and website structure using sidewalk chalk.

They spark a sense of design in the young students who designed the logo that embroiders their shirts.

The mentors fight for Net Nuetrality by using sticks and twine. CoderDojoErode organized an activist rally in their village and represented the cost of fast lanes by driving stakes with strings attached into the unpaved roads of their village.

CoderDojoErode crowds around the few laptops the mentors can muster up.

In order to boys and girls who otherwise would get no exposure to the Web in their formalized education.

Can you help the teachers of CoderDojoErode buy a shirt? For the cost of your latte you can say, "Thank You for making the world a better place?"

Hello everyone

I am so excited to help @coderdojoerode play and learn as we read, write, and participate on the web. One year ago I could not build a website. Then friends help. I want to help.
Added the image to the CSS stylesheet. It repeats. I messed up the no repeat code I think. Will need to play more.

We are a small group of geeks from Erode which is a district in state of Tamilnadu in southern part of India.
